UK's #1 Unsigned Act to launch first E.P.

28th SEP 2012

Canterbury band of buskers CoCo and the Butterfields are gearing up to launch their first ever EP at the end of this month. The energetic five-piece will introduce ‘Fip Fok’ at a celebration in their hometown of Canterbury at The Marlowe Theatre on Friday 28th September, two months after winning the UK's largest unsigned act competition. With EP orders rolling in, the 28th will be the first opportunity people have to walk away with the real thing.

This much anticipated event had 220 tickets up for grabs, and sold out in an astonishing day-and-a-half after announcing. The night will not only commemorate the EP launch, but will also showcase three other outstanding performances. Funke and the Two Tone Baby – a one man band extraordinaire from Maidstone – will provide main support, with Eric Ness of Norway (amidst eclectic accompaniment!) and Gypsy Jazz Tener Duende set to open the proceedings. Having already astounded the Marlowe once, come the 28th, CoCo and the Butterfields plan to really blow them away!

The first CoCo and the Butterfields EP shares its name with the band’s unique genre, Fip Fok: a colourful blend of Hip-Hop, Folk and Pop. The band claim that the four tracks on Fip Fok represent the first steps of a journey, creating something musically unprecedented by drawing in diverse elements and styles. “They are about feeling at home on the stage, having fun and playing music people need to dance to; performing catchy songs in an electric atmosphere”, says CoCo. The band don’t want to only show off their flare for creativity, but rather encourage their fans to explore their own.

Originally a busking folk trio, CoCo and the Butterfields have come a long way in just under a year. Head of Future Music and Events Director of Live and Unsigned, Chris Grayston commented: “CoCo and the Butterfields have come so far in such a short time since winning the Live and Unsigned Grand Final. This is a fantastic achievement and the perfect opportunity to showcase their incredible talent. This is one EP launch not to be missed.” The band are simply looking forward to being back where it all began – on the streets of Canterbury.

CoCo and the Butterfields promise that this EP is only the tip of the iceberg, a taster of exciting and revolutionary things to come.
